1.

First visit.

Almost everyone arriving at Rumi has these. Read the top three before your first class.

4 questions
What is Rumi Pilates?

Rumi Pilates is a small-group pilates studio in Los Angeles. We teach reformer, mat, and Half & Half (mat + reformer in one session) — built around a proprietary sequencing called the Rumi Method that gets taught the same way, every time, until the body learns it.

Our flagship is open in Calabasas; a second studio opens in Burbank later this year.

Where are your locations?

Two studios in the Los Angeles area:

  • Calabasas — opens soon. Mat & Reformer studio at 26527 Agoura Road, #100, Calabasas, CA 91302.
  • Burbank — opening later this year. Will offer mat, reformer, and Half & Half.
Do I need prior pilates experience?

No prior pilates experience required — and no dance, yoga, or fitness background either. Every class is built to be approachable on your first visit.

We offer a dedicated beginner class in each format:

Any of these is a good place to start. The one combination to watch: if you want to book a regular Half & Half class but haven't been on a reformer before, take Pilates Beginner Basic (Reformer) first so the equipment doesn't have to be taught on the fly.

Tell the front desk it's your first time when you arrive. We'll set you up, and your instructor will guide modifications throughout so the work fits your body.

What should I expect at my first class?

Arrive 10–15 minutes early so we can show you the space, set up your reformer or mat, and answer any questions before the class begins.

Wear fitted athletic clothing you can move freely in, bring a water bottle, and grip socks (sold at the front desk if you forgot). The instructor will know you're new and will walk you through any equipment basics during the warmup, then cue modifications throughout the class so the work matches your body — not the other way around.

Most first-timers leave feeling pleasantly worked, not destroyed. The Rumi Method is built on repetition, not exhaustion.

Classes & practice.

About the formats, the schedule, and how the work compounds over time.

1 question
How do I book a class?

Three options:

  • Online — view the schedule and reserve a spot on the schedule page or through the Mindbody app.
  • Mobile app — download the Rumi Pilates app (iOS or Android) for the fastest booking experience.
  • In person — stop by the front desk during studio hours; we'll set you up.

3.

Burbank & Heated Pilates.

What heated mat means, when the Burbank studio opens, and what the first hundred members get.

1 question
What is Infrared Heated Mat Pilates?

Infrared Heated Mat Pilates combines classical mat pilates with infrared heat panels mounted in the studio. The heat warms your body directly (rather than the air around you), which helps loosen muscles faster, encourages a deeper sweat, and supports recovery.

The result is a class that feels meditative and detoxifying — the same precise pilates work, with a sauna-like warmth that opens the body up.

Heads up: heated classes are not yet on our active schedule — they launch with our Burbank studio later this year. Until then, all current classes at Calabasas are non-heated.

4.

Common Questions.

48 questions
How hot does the studio get?

The studio is heated to 95–105°F and may at times reach temperatures in excess of 100°F. If you have any medical conditions, heart issues, blood pressure concerns, or are pregnant, please consult your physician before attending.

Is heated pilates safe for beginners?

Yes — it's rated Beginner Friendly and great for all levels. The heat helps muscles warm up faster, which can actually make movements feel more accessible. We strongly recommend consulting a licensed physician before your first class if you have any health concerns.

What do I need to bring to a mat class?

We provide everything you need:
• Large towel (provided)
• Small face towel (provided)
• Mat (provided)

Do I need grip socks for mat class?

Grippy socks are recommended but not mandatory for mat classes. We do require them for all Reformer Pilates classes. Socks are available for purchase at the studio.

What does the studio provide for mat classes?

We provide a mat, a large towel, and a small face towel for every mat class student. You just need to bring yourself, water, and appropriate workout clothing.

What should I wear to a heated mat class?

Form-fitting, breathable athletic clothing works best — the instructor needs to see your alignment, and the heat means lighter fabrics are more comfortable. Avoid baggy clothing. You'll be barefoot or in grip socks on the mat.

How many people are in a mat class?

Mat classes have a maximum capacity of 20 participants, ensuring individual attention while maintaining the energy of a group environment.

How long is a mat class?

45 minutes.

What is Reformer Pilates?

Reformer Pilates is a precision-based, equipment-driven workout performed on a Balanced Body Reformer — a spring-loaded carriage machine. In our Semi-Private Reformer classes, you'll work in a small group of 6–8 participants, performing exercises lying down, sitting, kneeling, and standing on the machine to target every muscle group.

Are grip socks required for reformer classes?

Yes — grippy socks are mandatory for all Reformer Pilates classes and private sessions. This is a safety requirement to prevent slipping on the carriage. If you forget yours, we have socks available for purchase at the studio — short socks $15, long socks $25.

What should I bring to a reformer class?

Grippy socks are required. We also recommend:
• Water bottle
• Towel
• Form-fitting workout clothing

How many people are in a reformer class?

A maximum of 10 participants per class, keeping it truly semi-private with personalized instructor attention throughout.

How long is a reformer class?

45 minutes.

What equipment do you use?

We use Balanced Body Reformer machines — industry-leading equipment known for their precision, smooth spring resistance, and durability.

Is reformer pilates done at room temperature?

Yes — our Reformer Pilates studio is at room temperature. The heated infrared environment is reserved for mat pilates classes.

How far in advance can I book a class?

You can book classes through our app, the class schedule or class pass booking system up to the class start time, subject to availability. We recommend booking early as classes — especially reformer — fill quickly due to limited capacity.

What is your cancellation policy?

You must cancel at least 8 hours before the scheduled class start time to avoid a late cancellation fee. Cancellations made within 8 hours of class are charged a late cancellation fee, which is automatically applied to your card on file.

What happens if I miss a class (no-show)?

If you fail to attend a class without cancelling, a no-show fee is automatically charged to your card on file. No exceptions are made — by booking you are reserving instructor time and studio space that cannot be offered to other clients.

What are the late cancellation and no-show fees?

• Late cancellation penalty fee: $10
• No-show penalty fee: $15
• Fail to check in upon arrival penalty fee: $10

I was on the waitlist and got into a class — does the cancellation policy still apply?

Yes. If you are moved from the waitlist into a class, the standard cancellation and no-show policy applies immediately. If you can no longer attend after being moved from the waitlist, you must remove yourself from the class to avoid fees.

Can I cancel or book online?

Yes — all bookings and cancellations are managed through our app, rumipilates.com or via the Mindbody app. You can also contact us at hello@rumipilates.com if you encounter any issues.

What if I arrive late?

Late arrivals may not be permitted entry to protect the experience of other students already in class. You will still be subject to the cancellation/no-show policy even if you are denied entry due to late arrival. Please plan to arrive 5–10 minutes early.

Always listen to your body and let your instructor know of any health concerns.
